Wood is a common material that is used for various purposes, including furniture, buildings, and paper. However, many people do not realise that wood is actually rarer than diamonds in the universe. This phenomenon can be attributed to several factors, including the abundance of carbon in space and the unique conditions required for wood to form. In this essay, we will explore the reasons why wood is rarer than diamonds in the universe. Wood is a type of organic material that is formed through the process of photosynthesis, in which plants convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. This process requires the presence of sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide, which are all relatively abundant in the universe. However, the specific conditions required for wood to form are much rarer, which is why it is less common than diamonds in the cosmos. In this essay, we will examine the factors that contribute to this phenomenon, including the abundance of carbon and the unique environmental conditions required for wood to develop. To answer that question, first we need to know how durable the hardwood is, since it’s two materials combined together, epoxy & hardwood. Unfinished wood can absorb humidity, can get infected by insects or even get rotten. That is why we only use the Kiln dried wood for our tables, plus our high quality finishing products provide anti spill protection. By the way the hardwood is called the way it’s called for a reason, so we shouldn’t really be surprised it is hard-wood and it’s extremely durable . So the Epoxy resin not only looks cool but its water resistant, easy to clean, never separates from the wood its attached to.  The conclusion is - hardwood and epoxy resin «river tables» are extremely durable and could last you the decades. You can always re-coat the finish if you wish to freshen it up!

Well, to answer that question we have to start from the very beginning - the production cost & process Choosing the right wood. At a hardwood supplier shop you’re looking for the perfect  Kiln dried with moisture level with no more than 8%, thick and flat wood slabs. Preparing the wood. After your trip to suppliers you are now ready to start the project. Flatten the slab, remove the barks, seal the wood with epoxy and choose the lay out and make few cuts. Creating the mould. Every home is different and so are the requirements. Some dining rooms could fit up to 3 metre long table for a big family to sit at, or it could be just a nice cosy coffee table to refresh your living room. Anything is possible! By now you are all set for the pouring part, as your wood is well sealed awaiting for you in the mould, and now it is time to calculate and mix just the right amount of epoxy for the project, and also adding your desired colour! Pourrr the resin in. Now we wait for the epoxy resin to be cured, that is approximately 7 days. Ok your next step is demolding your project. Remember that mould you created earlier? It is now time you take it apart. That panel you removed is your table to be, just don’t forget to plain it. You probably wonder how you plain it? Well that’s pretty simple if you have that CNC equipment. If you don't, the router sled is your option. Takes about 5 hours of surfacing and it's done, off to the next stage now! The standing part begins! Start from 60 grit to 400 grit and DON’T SKIP THE GRIT! Now after all of those hours of sanding you’re off to apply that perfect finish. First coat is easy, leave that buffing for the final coat ( yes its few of them needed ). Return in 24 hrs and lightly sand the surface and reapply the finish. Nope, not done yet! Return in 24 hrs and lightly sand the surface and reapply the finish and then buff and buff and buff again! If there is a little scratch you just noticed that appeared from nowhere - don’t worry, you just have to repeat the process: lightly sand, reapply and buff buff! Now we need some table legs. Set it up and your project is ready to be shipped! Packing and shipping can be fun too, but I’ll tell you all about it in my next blog!
